1. What should I wear to my first pole class?

Wear comfortable workout clothing. Shorts and a tank top or sports bra are ideal, as skin contact with the pole helps with grip. Avoid using lotions or oils on your hands or body before class, as they can make gripping the pole difficult.

2. Do I need to be strong or flexible to start?

Not at all! Pole classes are designed for all fitness levels. Strength and flexibility will improve with regular practice, so don’t worry if you’re starting from scratch.

3. Do I need special shoes?

No special shoes are needed for beginner classes. Bare feet are typically best for learning pole basics and improving grip. Heels are usually introduced in more advanced classes.

4. Will I feel self-conscious?

It’s normal to feel a little nervous at first, but pole studios are supportive and empowering spaces. Everyone starts as a beginner, and the focus is on personal growth and having fun.

5. How long does it take to see progress?

Progress depends on consistency and practice, but many people notice improvements in strength, coordination, and confidence within just a few weeks.

6. Is pole dancing safe?

Yes, when taught correctly, pole dancing is safe. Instructors will guide you through proper techniques and provide modifications to suit your fitness level.

7. Do I need to bring anything to class?

Bring water to stay hydrated and a towel if you need one. Some studios also recommend grip aids, which your instructor can advise you on if necessary.

8. What if I can’t do some of the moves?

Don’t worry! Pole dancing is about progress, not perfection. Instructors will offer modifications and alternative moves to help you build confidence and skills at your own pace.

9. Will I get bruises?

It’s possible to get small bruises, especially when learning new moves, as your body gets used to the pole. These are often called “pole kisses” and are a normal part of the learning process.
